Paws up to help domestic violence survivors and their pets secure safer futures!
Did you know…? According to the largest national survey on pets and domestic violence:
· 97% of survivors reported keeping their pet with them is a critical factor in deciding whether or not to seek shelter
· 50% of respondents went so far as to say they would not consider shelter at all if it meant leaving their pet behind
· Almost 50% reported they feared their abusive partner would harm or kill their pet
The results are clear – supporting survivors’ safety means supporting their furry loved ones too! That’s why we started the Purple Paws Foster Project last year. Check us out in The Gardner News!
In collaboration with the Gardner Animal Shelter our aim is to bridge this gap in safety support services for survivors residing in Gardner, Ashburnham, Hubbardston, and Westminster. Inspired by other successful pet fostering programs such as Berkshire Humane Society's PetSafe Program, we hope to expand the options for survivors seeking shelter or other exit strategies, but we need your help!!
Join us on Saturday April 29th, 2023, at the Pulaski Dog Park for a day filled with dogs, live music, food trucks, local vendors, raffles and more! Your $20 pre-registration fee for the Paw Walk around the dog park ($25 for day of registration) will help us to provide the necessary care to keep fostered pets safe and healthy until they’re able to be reunited with their owners. If you’d like to donate more than the registration fee, consider becoming a sponsor!
See below to pre-register for the Paw Walk, sign up as a vendor, or register to be an official event sponsor: What's something exciting your business offers? Say it here.
